ABOUT THE ARTIST | JONATHAN CANADY | b. 1972

Well known in the experimental music underground under such names as DEATHPILE and ANGEL OF DECAY, Philadelphia's Jonathan Canady began to focus his creative efforts on visual art in early 2007. The subjects of sex and death have been central to his artistic output since childhood. Canady distills these themes to their simplest and most powerful elements to create the art he has spent a lifetime searching for.

Despite the transgressive nature of his work he is no brooding sociopath. Canady's art is the counterpoint of his personality. He loves to laugh and to enjoy life in the shadow of death.

HOW I WORK

All the pieces you see on the site are hand painted or drawn. The paintings are done using gouache (opaque watercolor) and the drawings are india ink. Both are done on 140 lb hot press watercolor paper. No computer programs are used to create the work in any way.

Malsonus.com is the home of all things relating to my experimental music. I have been recording since 1991 and have had many releases issued internationally under the names DEAD WORLD, DEATHPILE, ANGEL OF DECAY and more. The name Malsonus (a made up word from the latin "bad / evil" and "sound") comes from a record label I ran from 1995 to 2000.
